Gerald provides strategic vision and leadership of the translational economic research and policy initiatives at the institute. He also oversees the institute’s American Growth Project, launched in 2022 to provide up-to-the-minute economic data, analysis and forecasting for towns, cities and counties across the country in an effort to help government officials, business leaders and other decision-makers navigate our nation’s continuing economic transformation.
Gerald has worked in both the public and private sectors focusing on the intersection between financial markets and economic fundamentals. During the Obama administration, he was deputy assistant secretary for macroeconomic analysis at the Department of Treasury, where he helped formulate and evaluate the impact of policy proposals on the U.S. economy. Before that he co-managed a global macro fund at Ziff Brothers Investments.
Gerald holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a doctorate in economics from Harvard University. He is a contributing author to “30-Second Money” as well as a co-author of “Political Cycles and the Macroeconomy.”
